Belay my last. I was thinking we were gonna meet in May to discuss the conference Jonathan Nedlow (sp) wants to put on in New Paltz, NY. Hence the I will be retired by then and could work it.

So just to be clear.. Are we talking about TWO separtate conference's here ?

ONE that was gonna be the ABANA one that Mike was going to find out more about ?

AND ONE that Niagara wants to put on ?

I should be retired in June of 2008, so I could committ to work the whole confernce, but will only do so if I don't have to pay to get in....

I think NYSDB should defineatly be involved , both with folks and money. It's gonna be called the Northeast conferance and New Yory is certianly in the north east.

so are we going to commit bodies, cash or both and who is committed to attending(volunteering?) for the entire conference.
I have yet to see anybody making this important step. (did I miss something?)
Mike, I assume you have attended a NEB meeting? what is their feeling as to group participation? (number of people needed ?)
Is there a firm date? I have taken the communication so far as to saying the Ashokin campus will be the location. Yes?

Mike , I haven't heard anything on the membership about the conference either way. I'm guessing that people want to do it . It seems like our financial contribution would be about around $1000 for the start up costs. That's a guess based on the last email we recieved from them. We may have that money on hand. We'll have to ask Harry.

It seems as if people are not really responding to these threads so it's hard to know what people think.

      Scott

Well Scott we got a lot more feed back. I will try and make it brief and
explain more at the picnic if you guys wish.

        1) We visited Pittsburgh area / Western Reserve (Ohio) / talked to Ontario
        (at April meeting).
All are very enthusiastic - not just interested - very interested. Also
suggest we contact Oil City Group (western PA)

2)Timing - all affiliates like late May 2008 - best suggestion is Labor day
weekend 24/25/26 May. This suits Canada and other affiliates. Also it is not
in conflict with others in the area conferences(Quadstate e.g.) - hence
fills a gap. Because Western Reserve have just had their first conference
this year, there is a suggestion that we hold ours bi-annually (too far
ahead for me to see haha)

3)We guess at about 75 attendee plus companions added on. PAABA=25 /
        WRABA=10 / OABA=25 /  NYSDB=25/Oil City=5  / plus others

        4) Location will be important. We continue to favor Andy Chamber's shop.
This offers a large (fabrication) shop with blacksmith shop attached. Also
is a large blacktop car park for tents. We need camping close by. We now
have confirmation that tent camping in the adjacent Erie County park will
probably be granted. Good access/ good hotels / plenty of family places to
visit make this a great site.

        5) Demonstrators - this will depend on budget. We would like one from each
affiliate. So far we like the following
            a) Jymm Hoffmann PAABA - 17century ironwork using modern tools
            b) Bruce Woodward WRABA- artistic work - including novel angles on angle
        iron!
            c) Bob Cook/Mark Puigmarti OABA - a Project not defined
and of course NYSDB - any suggestions?

        6) Money! - We haven't got a clue yet - all demonstrators are very flexible
on money - my guess id about $500 + expenses to each main demonstrators (2)
and expenses + conference fee and expenses to others who demo (2). We have
to define the job and work up a budget.

        7) Food - not explored - have noted Adirondack's costs for barbeque. My
personal feeling is that we cater one dinner (Saturday night) and attendees
fend for themselves for other meals.

So what is the feeling of the other forge masters and executive committee?
Do you want a 4-state conference at Niagara? Remember Niagara will be
hosting a spring '08 meeting and feel this would do the job.

Peter Parry is prepared to be Conference Chair
Terry Rose will handle site preparation
Andy Chambers wife Stacey we think will help with publicity
        Paul Smith can organize catering
Lots of other jobs / so plenty of help appreciated both before and during
        the conference.

We are committed in Niagara - what do the rest of you feel?

        regards

        Bob

          Gentlemen,
I have been approached by Jon Nedbor about our desire to be involved with
the Northeast Conference that they are planning for the Fall of 2008. There
are no specs on the finances as of yet.

Bob Corneck and the Buffalo group are planning to have a meeting in the
        spring of 2008 ...............................
